In 1859 Darwin released his book “On the Origin of Species” in which he proposed the idea that all living things came from one simple life form long ago. Darwin made the assumption that life may have begun in a “warm little pond, with all sorts of ammonia and phosphoric salts, lights, heat, electricity, etc. present, so that a protein compound was chemically formed ready to undergo still more complex changes”. It is an intriguing idea (that seemed possible in the 1800’s) but during that time very little was understood about cellular structures and biology. The immense complexity and importance of DNA was just beginning to be understood nearly 100 years later. We now know that even the “simplest” life forms are unimaginably complex.
Darwin’s idea that random chance processes somehow created amino acids and organized them into proteins and then frankensteined those proteins into life seems incomprehensible. The fact that over the last hundred years scientists in sophisticated laboratories with billions of research dollars haven’t been able to come even close to doing what Darwin thought random chance could accomplish should make a skeptic out of anyone.
In order to understand the complexity of life, let’s first take a quick look at a CGI representation of a cell.
Just to put it in perspective, there is enough information in one molecule of human DNA to fill a one-million page encyclopedia (the entire Encyclopedia Brittanica collection has just 25,000 pages). All of this information fits into a molecule with a diameter of one-billionth of a millimeter!
Fortunately, with all of the recent advances in biology, we understand the various elements of a cell and can actually estimate the chances of it coming together on its own.
Take a look at this video to get a sense of the improbability of a protein forming on its own. Keep in mind, one protein is just a tiny fraction of everything that is needed to create life. It’s like trying to build a spaceship and just having a bolt – the bolt is a prerequisite but you still need so much more.
There doesn’t appear to be any solid science related to the origin of life resulting from random-chance processes. On the contrary, there is an actual scientific law that refutes the idea that life simply came about spontaneously. The Law of Biogenesis states that life never comes from non-life. This law was formalized in 1864 by Louis Pasteur and has never been proven false. It’s surprising that given how wide-spread the belief of spontaneous generation is that there isn’t a more concerted effort from evolutionists to centralize their theory. Although one might presume that this is purposeful as a moving target is more difficult to attack.
It seems that the more frequently people begin to challenge the presumption that life came from non-life, the more creative evolutionists are becoming with their ideas on how life started on Earth. See this exchange between Dr. Ken Ham (President of Answers in Genesis) and Bill Nye the Science Guy who is a well-known spokesman for evolutionary causes. Bill is first asked if he can explain how life, which requires information, originated.
Although Nye admits that evolutionists have no idea how the information required for life (DNA) could have created itself, he does have a very interesting theory to explain how life began on Earth. Take a look:
It seems like there is a double-standard on the behalf of the naturalist. The belief in God or miracles is considered “anti-science” but they are free to propose that the origin of mankind was from extraterrestrials. At the very end, Mr. Nye reveals the truth about his belief system – he came to the conclusion that the Bible was made up and continues to reject it based on his own feelings and promulgates his faith in materialism regardless of what the scientific data reveals.
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary science is the “knowledge about or study of the natural world based on facts learned through experiments and observation”. Let’s summarize what we know about life originating from non-life:
Evolutionists claim that Creationism or Intelligent Deisgn is a “God of the Gaps” theory in which miracles are used to fill in the “gaps” of the Biblical model. However, Creationist claims that “God did it” are consistent with what is written in the Bible and point to an all-powerful God behind the miracle – which is much more logical and tenable than life (and all its complexity and stores of information) originating through random-chance processes.
